Study about the chain of events preceding the L-mode density limit published
10/26/2022
The chain of events preceding the density limit in L-mode was studied in the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak. The study has been published in Nuclear Materials and Energy. Before the density limit, the outer shear layer collapses, the electron pressure drop length increases, the outer divertor detaches, and a density shoulder forms. Enhanced turbulent cross-field transport is also observed.
Measurement Campaign on PANTA at Kyushu University successfully completed
09/23/2022
We are back from our two and a half week measurement campaign at the linear plasma experiment PANTA at Kyushu University in Fukuoka Japan. Even super typhoon Nanmadol has not stopped us. We think we have a good data set together and are very excited about the results of the analysis. We will link results to this page. We would like to thank Prof. Akihide Fujisawa, Prof. Chanho Moon, Prof. Takashi Nishizawa, Prof. Yoshihiko Nagashima, Taiki Kobayashi, Daiki Nishimura, Youming Guo and Ichiro Niiya.
We would like to thank for visiting the PLATO tokamak and QUEST tokamak at Kyushu University, and Heliotron J at Kyoto University. Prof. Manz additionally thanks for the opportunity to give a talk at Kyushu University and at Kyoto University.
Appearance of a low frequency coherent mode at the L-mode density limit
07/11/2022
The characteristics of turbulence and flows has been studied by Takashi Nishizawa from Kyushu University ,Peter Manz from the our group and our collegues from IPP at the transition to the L-mode density limit in ASDEX Upgrade. The results are recently published in Physics of Plasmas. A higher density shifts the fluctuation power spectral densities toward lower frequencies and wave numbers. A radially coherent low frequency mode appears in the case of the highest density.
First density measurements at SEAGULL
06/20/2022
Stefan Knauer and Thomas Wegner (from Wendelstein 7-X, IPP Greifswald) got the microwave interferometer at SEAGULL running again. These are the first measurements in a laboratory of our working group. So now there is movement coming in. Many thanks to Stefan and Thomas.
VINETA relocation carried out
05/17/2022
On Monday, VINETA moved from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) to the Physics Institute. VINETA is contracted from IPP to the Physics Institute and is meant to be our main experiment. We thank the IPP very much. Everything went smoothly. We would like to thank Nils from our side and Adrian von Stechow from the IPP for organizing the move. For the executions thanks also to Stefan and Sebastian.
Welcome to our team Sebastian Haag
05/17/2020
This week our team has grown. With Sebastian Haag we could gain a technician in the field of electrical engineering. Sebastian Haag supports us in the design, operation and maintenance of our experiments. We are looking forward to working together.
