Physics (B.Sc. and M.Sc.)
The Bachelor and Master program in physics is intended to provide students with the knowledge of the basic terms and laws of physics, to familiarize them with the experimental, theoretical and computer-based methods of physics and to introduce them to state-of the-art physical research. The physics program is divided into a six-semester Bachelor's course and a four-semester Master's course. The master's program is a postgraduate course that requires a successful completion of the bachelor's program. In total, the physics program is 5 years of studying for a full scientifically-oriented physicist. The goal of the Greifswald physics program is to enable a complete Bachelor and Master study for suitable students.
Teaching of Physics for secondary/grammar schools
The aim of the program is to provide a professional, subject-specific and practical didactic program for teaching of physics for secondary/grammar schools.
The subjects of study include the basic terms and laws of physics. The course also includes introductions to electronics and computer-aided physics, as well as topics from applied physics. The study program also includes lab courses to a large degree. Furthermore, didactic methods and social skills are discussed in practice-oriented courses in cooperation with the high schools.
Environmental Science
Since 2005, the B. Sc. Environmental science is affiliated with the Institute of Physics at the University of Greifswald. It is a scientific study with contributions from the disciplines of physics, environmental physics and chemistry, which are supplemented by ecology, geology, microbiology and mathematics. The fields of law and economics are also included. The students of environmental sciences participate in lectures, exercises and seminars together with students from the various disciplines. A master program in environmental sciences is offered by the Institute of Biochemistry.
Medical Physics (M.Sc.)
The M.Sc. Medical physics is offered by the Institute of Physics. The aim is to teach methods of medicine, radiology and biomedical imaging for students with a bachelor's degree in physics (or a comparable subject). The course combines research in medicine, natural science, medical imaging, biochemistry and bio-medicine. The program will start in the winter semester 2021/2022.
