Research
The research fields of this group comprise the physics and chemistry of non-thermal plasmas. In particular, the dynamics, structure formation and reactivity of low and atmospheric pressure plasmas in contact with surfaces are in the focus of interest. Advanced plasma and gas phase diagnostics are used to achieve fundamental knowledge on the discharge development and stability, the plasma sheath properties as well as the influence of surface charges, secondary species, negative ions and metastables.
The complex interaction of molecular plasmas with material surfaces, leading to the chemical surface modification, etching or deposition of functional thin films, is a second line of investigations. The latter may be applied for synthesis of novel materials combining plasma and nanoscience as well as plasma science and biomedicine.
