Humboldt Fellow Dhruv Desai to join the Plasma Astrophysics Group

Dhruv Desai (Columbia University, New York) was awarded a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship. As a Humboldt Fellow in the Plasma Astrophysics Group at the Institute of Physics, Dhruv will conduct research on the dense plasma outflows of young neutron stars that are born in particular supernovae or in collisions of neutron stars. In particular, he will investigate whether such outflows play an important role in the synthesis of heavy elements in the Universe. The competitive Humboldt Fellowship award supports highly qualified postdoctoral researchers from across the globe and across all scientific disciplines.
