Physics of the outer rim

The Max Planck Fellow Program promotes cooperation between universities and the Max Planck Society by awarding fellow status to outstanding university teachers. The appointment as a Max Planck Fellow is for a period of five years and is linked to the leadership of a small working group at a Max Planck Institute. The working group of Professor Manz, who has been a Max Planck Fellow since January 1 2025, is based at the IPP in Greifswald. The turbulence around the separatrix will be the focus of the investigations. The separatrix represents the outermost edge (the OUTER RIM) of the confined plasma. Fundamental physical concepts that have had little influence on fusion research to date are to be applied in fusion research.
